Making the "street view" of your home better - Paint the garage door!

We all want our home to look nice especially for special family gathering and friends to come over. There is something about taking pride in the look of your home - whether it is a new paint job or doing some landscaping.

If your home has a front facing garage door - your garage door is one of the main focal points and the area that most "visitors" see.

If you have thought about the process and have decided to be a "do-it-yourselfer" - there are some areas that you need a bit of direction when painting your garage door
  • Below are some simple tips and steps to help you paint your wood or metal garage door.
  • Make sure that the area you are going to paint is clean. Metal garage doors should be pressure washed and wooden garage doors can be cleaned with a garden hose.
  • Repair any portions of the garage door that are damaged. Caulk and fill in any gaps that are present.
  • If you door has some rust - scrape that area good and remove any peeling paint.
  • Protect the area around your garage doors. Use plastic and painters tape to tape off any trim, hardware and or windows. Make sure to lay a tarp down on your concrete driveway to avoid any spray.
  • Prime the area with an exterior acrylic primer.
  • Paint using a latex or acrylic paint. Whether you use a brush or a sprayer or a roller, let the paint dry completely. You will need 2 to 3 coats.
  • Clean up time! Make sure to remove all tape, clean up any splatters and let it all dry.

Now - drive up and enjoy the view of your newly painted garage door!
